Animal Welfare
Many people view animal welfare in different ways. In our opinion, it means you do what's best for the animals to keep them happy and healthy. That means that the animals have all their basic needs of food, water and shelter as well good health and they feel safe in their environment.
We are not an organic operation due to the fact that we feel it is inhumane to let an animal live a sickly, miserable life just to make a few extra bucks off of it. Most people don't realize that organic animals carry heavy parasite loads in their body because they can't be treated to maintain the organic status. Mange, intestinal worms and grubs are all common parasites living inside organic animals. So is that really a healthy animal? We think not. Not to mention the consumer probably wouldn't like to cut into an organic steak and have a flesh-boring grub fall out. Or they probably wouldn't like all the worm larva inside the organic meat they're eating. With that said, it is also very important not to overmedicate the animals.
Another big part of animal welfare is that the animals do not fear us. We want them to feel safe and secure in their environment while at our farm. No animal should ever be abused. We see to it that our animals are safe and happy.
